So many words to describe it. Cold, lonely, miserable, all of these surround me after yet another loss. What if this entire thing, the entire effort. All my sweat and blood sacrificing it all to follow in a friends footsteps. What if nothing has changed and Chris Cable will never be able to lift a title above his head and that falling into that dark void of retirement is the only path that can be taken. This all infiltrated my head at yet another loss and another opportunity to win a title going down the drain. Sitting in that locker room towel over my head no one around except the deep panting after kicking in two lockers in frustration. I had to vent my frustration, I needed to get out of here so that what I did. I ignored everyone else and just left the arena. I needed to go somewhere where no one could find me, somewhere I could be alone so that I could get a hold of myself. I go somewhere that brings back memories a place where I all started. Detroit, Michigan “The Motor City” the place where it all began. A place where a young, naïve man grew up and became the NYCCW and MPW star. A guy that became part of the biggest revolution since the American War of Independence itself.
It’s a couple of days after the PPV and I sit in the cave like training arena where I began in the USA. I still remember my first match against Ryan Andrews, we were both young upcoming stars, me from the land down under and Andrews from the British city of Manchester. We put on a show, for a 4 minute match we impressed so much that we received great feedback. Sadly though only one of us could be taken and Chris being Chris I took that opportunity and ran with it. I pretty much sold out Andrews when he was down getting checked by the ref after a bad fall I took the padding of the turnbuckle off and when he finally got up I drilled him into that pad, the small crowd booed me but it didn’t matter to me because I got the attention the owners. They knew I had already been wrestling for a couple of years in Japan before my American arrival and this was the cherry on the cake for the owners of small MCW aka Motor City Wrestling.
I sit on the ring apron of the worn down squared circle, the once growing company had succumbed to the struggles of lower wrestling companies in the USA where wrestling is dominated by the likes of MPDUB. This once climbing company shut down and became a local gym for the younger generation wanting to become a wrestler and the elderly who always wanted to be one.
“Funny seeing you here”
I turn in surprise wondering who else could be here and it was Matthew Williamson the man who created MCW and a man that introduced me to the American style of wrestling who helped me covert my own style to make me successful in this global empire.
I lift off the ring apron and approach my former mentor
“Matt, glad to see you I didn’t expect you to be here”\
“Well I watched Uncivil War and I knew you would back here
I smile and share a laugh with my friend
“I know why you are here Chris”
The fun atmosphere dies down and a more serious tone sets in, that split second of forgetfulness was a blessing.
“You’re frustrated, you’re tired of losing and getting so close to winning but everytime they knock you back down, so you decided to join a friend who promised you it all in return that you help him, that you help him parade an idea which was to start a revoulotion. But after you lost again you are lost Chris, you don’t know which way is up and I can tell you now the way up is right in front of you. Chris, you have to take that ladder and start climbing it again, the reason why we picked you up was because of your resiliency, because when you get knocked down you always get up no matter what, this is why you are one of the best.
"So your saying you agree with what Drake and I are doing?
"I don't care about what you believe and not believe in, what I care about is that you someone with huge amounts of potential will rise again to take what is yours, to take what you think is yours is the way you should be thinking Chris, if you say what you have told everyone over the past number of weeks, than do it and become the best you can be"
"I know Chris that you are upset about losing that Ladder Match but just remember you can get another shot at that Sin City Title, I've seen you get up before and win titles and I think you can do it again! All you got a do is knuckle down
I realise what Matt is saying and after catching up for another ten minutes of talking I take the next flight out of Detroit straight to Phoenix to get ready for TNT.
I arrive in Arizona feeling as if i just started with Drake again, because of my old mentor I realised that no matter the loses, no matter the falls eventually the AOA will succeed and that no matter what people say or do they can not stop the truths and conspiracies of pro wrestling being uncovered in a whole.
It is two days before Takedown where I am in my hotel room, I am setting up all my belongings for the next couple of days being spent here. I turn around to a knock on the door, I am surprised to get a knock but am put to ease when i open it to Drake.
He looks at me with a sign of relief on his face
"Yo Chris, where the hell you been? I've tried to call you and even asked your folks back in Australia where you were?
Sorry Drakey Boy i was just...visiting some old friends
Well are you all good now? Cause I need you on your game for Real Steele....Actually i take that back, go take a vacation because we are facing Real Steele, anyway I'm glad you're here cause I was scared you had bailed on me or something, it was hard enough trying to find you
Well I was for a second, but then after some help from an old mentor I realised that what we are doing here is right and that no matter the loses, no matter the dissapointment we will succeed
Drake looks at me and after a few seconds of what seems to be pondering he pats me on the shoulder smirking
Chris, it's ok everyone when they finally see what is wrong with wrestling and more importantly MPW will have moments of regret and second guess themselves but now that you have thought this through it has become much more clear for you and now let the fun begin. Anyway before I have to leave for a press conference I wanted to say bad luck about your loss last sunday, don't worry you will get your hands on the Sin City title
Thanks Drake, really appreciate that, tell you what you get on your way to the press conferance than after i'm finished here i'll make sure to come down afterwards and we can catch up
Looking forward to it
