The Orleans Arena was still abuzz after an amazing night. A series of tremendous matches that left the crowd drooling for more, intense drama between Johnny Clash, Rage and the general manager, even Kurt Newman delighting the fans with his antics. But what the production did not show was the aftermath of the opening match of the night. On that same night, one particular wrestler was not too happy with what had just transpired.
"What the hell? How did this happen? I was about to seal that match, and this smug, arrogant wannabe comes in and attacks me from behind!"
John Fisherman was clearly distraught about losing his debut match, especially since he was the unfortunate one to be pinned during the match. He had even unbraided his beard out of frustration at this point! Beside him was his manager, the gorgeous Ms. Jasmine Biguns, who also played a role in the closing stages of the match.
"John, baby, calm down."
"Jasmine, this was my first match here. Do you know how important first impressions are?"
"Johnny, just relax, you're overreacting. This was just one match in what will be a lengthy career, I'll promise you that. Besides, this is only the second show in the company's history. Just by competing tonight, you've already become one of the pioneers of this company!"
Ms. Biguns was clearly calm about the whole situation, despite the fact that she was unable to rescue her man from defeat courtesy of the man that puts the awe in awesome. But to John, all he cared about was winning.
"Jasmine, I came here to win. I signed with you because I want to win. You're supposed to help me win, so why didn't you stop that moron from attacking me behind my back?"
"Again, I'm sorry, I would have if I could."
"Well maybe you should have tried flashing him or something!"
If such a remark came from someone who was not associated with her, Ms. Biguns would have slapped the taste out of their mouth, but instead she remained calm, and there was a good reason for staying that way.
"I'm going to ignore that. Now listen John, you've still got your whole career ahead of you. In fact, I managed to make a little arrangement for you."
"Oh, and what's that then?"
"Didn't you just hear the announcement? You're in a Roll of the Dice qualifying match next week!"
Suddenly John was not as agitated as he was moments ago. This news even managed to light a grin onto his face.
"Really? Cool. How'd you manage that?"
"I have my ways..."
Ms. Biguns has always been anonymous in her actions, but from the wink of her eye, there was no question to what she was implying, if it were true that is.
"Wow, I guess signing with you was not such a bad idea after all! So who am I fighting next week?"
"Jason X."
"Jason...oh yeah, I've heard of him. Long black hair, slight beard..."
"Yeah, he also has a match against Taufik up next. You probably should take a look at him. Scout the opposition, you know?"
"Oh yeah, as if I have to worry about someone with an 'X' in his name. I mean, what is that supposed to mean? 'X-treme'? Is he actually going around calling himself 'X-treme'? You know what, if I had a nickel for every time I've met a wrestler with an 'X' in his name, I'd be one rich son of a..."
At this point, John realized that he was alone, Ms. Biguns was out of his sight. She had clearly walked off during his little ramble to himself.
The following day...
The chaotic night was over, and the MPW stars have had a chance to blow off some steam after the events of the remarkable evening, but the hours had not gone by without the stars and fans alike anticipating what events were to follow in the next Monday Night Main Event. One particular person who was excited about the show was John Fisherman. Finally, he had a chance to demonstrate his skills one-on-one, but above all else, he had the opportunity to qualify for the Roll of the Dice match at High Stakes.
At the moment, he was happy, at least happy enough to shoot a promo for the MPW camera crew, who stood before him in an unnamed gym, where John was wearing a sweaty workout attire, with a bottle of water in hand.
"Hi. I'm John Fisherman. Now don't look so surprised, I love to work out as much as the next guy. It's what I do to keep in tip-top shape. The thing is though, I've started training twice as hard this week. Why is that? Because Jasmine has informed me that I will be competing this Monday in a Roll of the Dice qualifying match against some kid calling himself Jason X. Personally, I'd prefer it if they just entered me into the match straight away, but I suppose, considering my competition, there's not really going to be much difference, is there?"
"Now I know what you're probably thinking. After what happened last Monday, should I be a little bit more concerned about my next opponent? No I shouldn't. Why? Firstly, last week I was caught off guard, attacked from behind, but this week, it's one-on-one, just the way I like it. Secondly, why should I be worried about someone with an 'X' in his name? I mean, how many of them has there been in this industry? Jack X. Mike X. Nicole X. Chris X. I've heard them all! Jason X? Well, that's just another unimpressive name to me."
"I must admit though, I watched your match against Taufik, but I have to be honest. I think he was holding back a little bit. Trust me Jason, I won't. So I suggest you savor victory while it lasts, because this Monday, the star will fall."
With that said, John Fisherman resumed to his regime as the cameras faded out.
