“Don't talk to me about aesthetics or tradition. Talk to me about what sells and what's good right now. And what the American people like is to think the underdog still has a chance.”
-George Steinbrenner
***The MPW camera fades into a large parking lot, where Samuel and Clay, The Night Terrors, are standing around, luggage bags sitting beside them. Clay has his arms crossed over his chest, and looks to be angry. He is watching Samuel out of the corner of his eye, but Samuel ignores him. After a moment of complete silence, Clay finally snaps, picking up one of his luggage bags, lifting it above his head, and tosses it at a Silver Lexus, and hits the windshield with the bag, causing a major crack on the windshield. Clay walks back over to the Lexus, looks at the broken windshield, and grabs his bag off of the hood, ignoring the damage. Clay walks back over to Samuel, who continues to ignore Clay. Clay crosses his arms again, looks at Samuel, and starts to speak...***
Clay: Damn it Samuel, when the hell is our cab going to be here? You said it would be here any minute over fifteen minutes ago. You know I hate standing around waiting...
Samuel: You want to know the truth?
Clay: What do you mean”the truth”?
Samuel: We’re not waiting for a cab...
Clay: If we’re not waiting for a cab, then what is the hell are we doing out here, standing in this fucking parking lot?
***Samuel finally turns his head and looks at Samuel, and lets out a little grin. This just infuriates Clay even further, who swings his luggage at the same Lexus, this time tearing off the passenger's side mirror. As Clay shakes his head in anger, a loud horn fills the parking lot, and both Samuel and Clay lookup at a large black bus with dark, tinted windows, that is entering the parking lot. Clay looks over at Samuel, who gives him a smile, and then bends over and grabs his luggage sitting at his feet. The black bus pulls up to Samuel and Clay, and smoothly stops. Clay looks over at Samuel with a confused look...***
Clay: Okay, now I’m intrigued. Is this for us?
Samuel: Surprise brother...
***The door to the bus opens, and light fills the parking lot from inside of the bus. From inside the bus, a man dressed in blue jeans, a black Motorhead tee shirt, and a plain black baseball cap steps from out of the bus and into the parking lot. The man walks right over to Samuel, and extends his hand, which Samuel accepts. Samuel turns to Clay and starts to speak...***
Samuel: Clay, this is Jimmy, he’s going to be our driver for now on...
Jimmy: Hey, nice to meet you. Big fan...
***Jimmy extends his hand towards Clay, who nods and shakes it without interest. Jimmy then starts talking again...***
Jimmy: Well, how about the grand tour?
Clay: Tour? It’s a bus...
Jimmy: What, he doesn’t know?
***Samuel shakes his head no, causing Jimmy to let out a little laugh...***
Jimmy: Clay, you’re in for a treat then. Come on in...
***Jimmy grabs the two luggage bags from Clay and Samuel, turns, and steps onto the bus. Samuel quickly follows, as Clay stands outside, looking at the massive bus. Clay slowly makes his way into the bus, and is amazed at what he sees as he steps in. After the initial four steps to get up to the bus’s main level, he looks around at the black walls of the bus, surrounded by the black recliners and tables in the main room. Also, a flat screen television is mounted across from the two recliners. Jimmy is standing past the sitting area with Samuel, and he starts to speak...***
Jimmy: Well, as you can see, two recliners separated by a table right there. The television right across from them. You have a blu-ray player, surround sound, and a few other devices set up underneath the TV. Back here, you have a pantry, a sink, a fridge/freezer combo, and a microwave. Can’t make anything too fancy without a stove or oven, but there’s more than enough room to make some meals in here...
Clay: Samuel, how the hell did you afford this?
Samuel: Wait a few minutes and I’ll explain. We have more to see...
Clay: More?
Jimmy: Yeah, you wanna see the sleeping quarters?
***Jimmy leads the group further back through the bus, past the kitchen area, leading to two doors. He stops in front of the doors, and points to the one on his left...***
Jimmy: This is the bathroom. There’s a toilet, sink with a mirror above it, and a stand up shower. Through the other room is the sleeping quarters...
***Jimmy opens the door on the right, which leads to a shorter hall. On each side of the hall are two bunk bed style beds, four beds in total. At the end of the hall, maybe ten feet away from the original door, is another door. Jimmy powers his way through the hall to the second door, and opens it up. Instead of walking in, Jimmy steps aside, allowing Samuel and Clay to step into the room. There are two beds in the room, one significantly smaller than the other. The back wall appears to be a large closet with sliding doors...***
Jimmy: Just like you you wanted Samuel, a twin XL bed for you, and a California King for Clay. In the back is a closet I’m sure is plenty big enough for the both of you. Also, at the foot of each your beds is a drawer for socks, underwear, whatever. This panel for the door not only controls the lights, but also the AC for this room, and opens this...
***Jimmy reaches into the room, and touches a button the on previously mentioned panel by the door. On the wall across from the closet, the wall starts to move, and a panel is lowered into the wall, revealing another flat screen television. Jimmy smiles, and Samuel turns toward Jimmy to speak...***
Samuel: Thanks for the tour Jimmy. But I have to talk to my brother for a few minutes, do you mind giving us some privacy?
Jimmy: Not at all. I will be up front if you need me, have to make a phone call anyway. But real quickly, I just want to say, that I appreciate this opportunity that you have given me, and if you need anything, please, just ask and I’ll do my damndest to get it for you...
***Samuel nods at Jimmy, who grabs the door handle and closes it behind him. Samuel walks over to his bed, and sits down. Clay stands in between the beds, looking down at Samuel, and starts to speak...***
Clay: How in the hell did you afford this Samuel? I mean, I know you control the finances and all, but there is no way that we have earned enough in the MPW for something like this...
Samuel: Clay, you should know by now, I always have a plan. Between our contracts with the MPW, and a couple investments I have, this is nothing. Plus, don’t forget, now that we have this bus, not only does that take care of our traveling costs, but now, we can get a good night of sleep whenever we want, without having to pay for a hotel room. And while we’re back here, preparing for our matches, we don’t have to worry about dealing with people any longer. And we won’t have to worry about driving anywhere either...
Clay: Speaking of driving, who is Jimmy, and how do you know him? I mean, you’re not the social type...
Samuel: Well, remember Luke from the orphanage?
Clay: Of course, but why would one of the social workers contact you? It’s been awhile since we’ve been there...
Samuel: Luke called me, and told me that he saw how well we were doing in the MPW, and asked if I could help Jimmy out...
Clay: And you said yes?
Samuel: Not until I met with Jimmy. Jimmy was a heroin user for years, preferring to escape this world through hallucinations then face the real world. One day, he overdosed, and was declared legally dead for almost five minutes. When he woke up, he swore off drugs, because of what he saw when he was dead...
Clay: He saw something?
Samuel: I guess I should have said, it was because of what he didn’t see. Jimmy didn’t see the bright lights of Heaven, nor the fiery flames of hell. No God, no Allah, no Devil, nothing. Just the eternal black that is death. He knew then that there is nothing in life other than the world we live in, and he embraced the pain of the real world, the loneliness that if existence, and decided that he wanted to live. Been clean nearly eight years now. And when I looked into his eyes for the first time, I saw the truth looking back at me. I knew I had to help show him the truth, just as I did you all those years ago. But while you and I are monsters, Jimmy is not. Jimmy is just a man who wants to know the truth, and be remembered when he leaves this world. I knew that if I were to take him in, he would be a loyal man, and in today’s world, that’s something not to take lightly...
Clay: So he’s your assistant then?
Samuel: No, he’s not working for me like that. He’s driving us, run some errands here and there, and he’ll look out for some of the stuff we don’t want to have to worry about. And maybe one day, years from now, Jimmy will be ready to join the family. But for now, he’s just a student, more than willing to learn, not only from me, but from you too. And it is our responsibility to him, just like the MPW audience, to show him the true path of darkness. But forget him for now, because we have much more to talk about...
***Clay sits down on the larger bed, looking at Samuel as he continues to speak...***
Samuel: I just got the word about next Takedown. After a couple weeks of solo action, we’ll be teaming again...
Clay: Bob Herman finally cave and give us a shot at the Tag Titles?
Samuel: You would figure, but no, The Night Terrors are overlooked once again. As I’ve said countless times, “MPW Management” still doesn’t understand us, and they don’t want us to reflect the MPW or something like that...
Clay: So rather than have the MPW Tag Team Championships around the waists of two who would not only be fighting champions, they would rather Baxter and Blaze use the belts as decoration?
Samuel: Or so it seems anyway...
Clay: If we’re not facing Iconic Aggression, then who will we be stepping into the ring with? Chris Cable? Brandon Nytrus? White Mask?
Samuel: Think lower...
Clay: Jason X?
Samuel: Think bottom of the food chain...
Clay: Oh, don’t tell me we have to wipe the arena with Real Steele again...
Samuel: Even that wouldn’t be a slap in the face the way this is. We are facing off against Taufik and Emi Yamamoto...
***Clay stares at Samuel blankly, and then starts to chuckle, and then the chuckle becomes a full laugh. After a moment of laughter, Clay responds to the news of The Night Terror’s latest opponents...***
Clay: You’re kidding with me? Taufik, the man that not only we’ve beat before, but you beat singlehandedly on Takedown just this Thursday, and Emi, who hasn’t won a match in the MPW ring since God knows when?
Samuel: Do you know me to kid around?
Clay: No, I suppose I don’t. So, we’re looking towards an easy victory leading up to Gold Rush?
Samuel: No, wrong on two counts. First, we’re not looking towards Gold Rush, but Takedown. Secondly, this is not going to be an easy victory for us...
Clay: It’s Taufik and Emi, how can this not be an easy victory?
Samuel: Look, you know as well as I do that we are the greatest force in the MPW. By embracing the truth, we have been given a power unlike anything else the MPW has ever seen. Even knowing that, there is a reason Taufik has been in the MPW for over a year. Taufik has held multiple championships in the MPW, and we both know he’ll fight with everything he’s got. And as for Emi, she’s one hell of a tenacious chick. While it’s true that she may not have the ability that others do here in the MPW, he has quite the heart...
Clay: You’re really starting to worry me. You’re being, well, nice...
Samuel: Hold on a minute there brother. You see, I know that neither of our opponents are random bums off the street, but when you compare them to The Night Terrors, they may as well be. Hell, Trey Baxter may be the greatest MPW World Champion of all time, and yet, when you compare him to The Night Terrors, he’s just another imposter, pretending to be the best. But the biggest reason that it’s not going to be an easy victory is that I will not allow it to be an easy victory...
Clay: Meaning?
Samuel: Meaning that no matter how quickly we can pin either Emi or Taufik, no matter how easy it would be to break both of them down to the point where they quit, we’re not going to do that. We’re going to take our time. We’re going to make an example out of “The Savior” and “The Millenium Pro Warrior”. We are going to show “MPW Management”, led by Bob Herman, that if they want us to to clear out the bottom dwellers of the MPW, we will start this week, and we won’t stop until we are given what we deserve...
***Clay shows an evil grin as Samuel finishes his last sentence...***
Clay: Are you saying what I think you’re saying? No more holding back, no more putting on a show?
Samuel: I’m saying that if “MPW Management” wants us to take care of their dirty business, then we will do it our way. The Night Terror way. We have allowed Taufik to walk away from that ring twice now, with only bumps and bruises. We have only set out to defeat our opponents, but now, we humiliate. We devastate. We destroy. The Night Terrors are going to get the attention of the MPW, and there will be nothing, and I mean nothing, capable of stopping us. Not Taufik, nor Emi, not even Iconic Aggression.
***Clay lays back on his bed, but continues to speak...***
Clay: I still don’t understand though. I mean, I get what you’re saying Samuel, but I don’t understand how Bob Herman can keep doing this to us. We have shown week in and week out that it doesn’t matter if we’re talking about single or tag team action, we’re unstoppable. We should be in the main event, you and I both know it, and to be honest, I’m sure Bob Herman knows it too, whether he wishes admits it or not...
Samuel: All of this is about marketing. It’s about what makes the MPW money. I’ll be the first person to say that The Night Terrors are not good for merchandise sales. Like we said before, just wear a plain black tee shirt if you embrace the truth and the darkness. How is MPW making money off of that? Bob Herman and the rest of “MPW Management” are just scared of what the MPW will become once we take hold of the MPW. They fear us, and instead of embracing that fear, they try to delay the inevitable. They try to hold onto their sponsors, who no doubt wish to see us fail. But more than anything, it’s always easy to get fans to watch an underdog in action...
Because that is all they are trying to do. We are Goliath, and Bob Herman hopes Taufik and Emi can be the MPW’s David, the ones to slay the giant. And I can understand the marketing potential in that, but this isn’t some fairy tale, this is real life. Underdog or not, there is not going to be a magical upset. There won’t be an upset in the making. In the future, people will not remember Takedown as the time when Taufik and Emi were able beat the odds and walk out with a victory over the greatest tag team that the MPW has ever seen. No, they will see it as the beginning of the end. They will see it as the night Emi Yamamoto is finally broken to the point where no amount of heart can help her fight back. They will see this as the night that The Night Terrors finally rip the idea of Allah out of the mind of Taufik and replace it with the power of fear. I called Taufik a stepping stone last week, and I was wrong, because defeating him twice has got us nowhere. But this week, the destruction of “The Savior” and the woman he worships will finally lead to our embrace from “MPW Management”. Clay, it’s time to show them all what it means face a monster, at the expense of Taufik and Emi...
***Samuel slowly moves backward and lays on his bed. After a moment of silence, there is a knock at the door to the bedroom. The door opens, and Jimmy appears through the door frame...***
Jimmy: Hey guys, sorry to bother you, but I’m assuming it’s time to hit the road?
Samuel: Actually, before we head for Chicago, we need to stop by our hotel...
Jimmy: Not to be rude, but isn’t the point of this bus so that you wouldn’t need to stay at hotels?
Clay: You think we’re going around the country with only one suitcase apiece? We have to pick up the rest of our stuff...
Jimmy: Oh, uh, yeah, that makes sense...
Samuel: Jimmy, if this is going to work out, you’re going to have to trust whatever we say. I promise you, you’ll always hear the truth from us. You got it?
Jimmy: Yes sir!
Samuel: Not sir, call me Samuel...
Jimmy: Ok. I’ll get us on the road Samuel. We should be there is about fifteen minutes...
***Jimmy quickly reaches for the door, and closes it. As soon as the door is closed, Clay turns his head and starts to speak...***
Clay: You really think that idiot can hang with us?
Samuel: Any man can, as long as he shows a willingness to learn and embrace the truth we will be teaching. Except for Taufik and Emi. They are to be examples, and after we get done with them at Takedown, there won’t be enough left of them to be of any use to anyone...
Clay: Are you trying to get me excited for Takedown? Because it’s been a long time that I’ve been able to do just what you are talking about...
Samuel: Oh I know what you mean brother. Flesh will be torn, blood will be shed, and bones may even be broken. It’s a second start for us, and it will be the end of the underdogs. Hopefully, “MPW Management” will learn their lesson in the forms of the broken bodies of Emi and Taufik, because they really won’t like what our next step would be...
***Samuel smiles as the thought of destruction as the bus starts back up, and the bus begins to move. Samuel raises his hands, and claps twice, turning off the lights in the bedroom. The MPW camera sits in complete darkness, as silence begins to drown out the feed. The MPW camera slowly fades away to nothing...............***
