“They don't give you gold medals for beating somebody. They give you gold medals for beating everybody.”
-Michael Johnson
***The MPW camera fades into long hallway, with painted blue walls and fluorescent lights overhead. The camera is focused on door at the end of the hall. After a moment, the door opens inward, and in walks The Night Terrors, Samuel and Clay, dressed in their usual black attire. Samuel leds the way down the hall, followed closely from behind by Clay. Samuel and Clay walk past all the of the closed doors in the hallway, and past the camera. As the camera turns to follow The Night Terrors, they stop at a desk, where an older black woman is sitting on the phone, looking down at some papers at her desk...***
Receptionist (On Phone): So Mr. Mitchell will be brought here in the morning...... Okay, we’ll have room number 214 ready for him....... Yes sir, we can do that too........ No problem, have a nice day...
***The receptionist hangs up the phone without looking up, and grabs a pen off of the desk to make a couple of notes on the papers sitting in front of her. After a moment, she puts the pen down, and begins to yawn. Unaware of Samuel and Clay’s presence, the woman begins to yawn, stretching her arms to the side. As she looks up from the desk, she is startled by The Night Terrors, letting out a muffled screech. After a deep breath, the receptionist takes a deep breath, and holding a hand on her chest, speaks to Samuel...***
Receptionist: Oh Lord you scared the bejesus out of me...
Samuel: I tend to have that effect on woman, and a good chunk of men too...
Receptionist: I can imagine. Can I help you?
Samuel: We have an appointment with Dr. Kwong at one thirty...
***The receptionist looks back down at her desk, and pulls out an appointment book. Opening to today’s date, she uses her index finger to find the appointment, and as she does, she reaches for the phone with her other hand. After pressing a couple of buttons for the correct extension, she brings the phone up to her ear...***
Receptionist: Dr. Kwong, your one thirty appointment is checking in........ Oh, alright, will do...
***The Receptionist quickly hangs up the phone, and looks up at Samuel and Clay...***
Receptionist: So Dr. Kwong is held up with another patient right now. But she instructed me to take the both of you into her office while she finishes up. Will that work for the two of you?
***The Receptionist stands up from behind the desk, and waves Samuel and Clay he way...
Receptionist: Follow me...
***The Receptionist walks around the desk, and down a hall to the right. Samuel and Clay quickly follow behind, as she moves pretty fast for a woman her size. As they pass each room, Clay catches a glimpse of all of the older faces that litter each room. The faces are filled with loneliness and sorrow, as though they are just waiting to die. After about thirty seconds, The Receptionist stops at a wooden door at the end of the hall, and opens it without moving into the room. She points into the room as she once again begins to speak...***
Receptionist: You two can wait in Dr. Kwong’s office, she’ll be just a couple minutes. She is currently finishing with a meeting upstairs...
***Samuel nods to the woman, and enters the room, sitting down in one of the two chairs in front of the large, dark wood desk. Clay quickly follows, flashing a creepy smile at the Receptionist that causes her breathing to quicken. Clay sits down next to Samuel, and the Receptionist closes the door from the outside of the office. As Samuel starts to look around at the few medical degrees placed on the wall, Clay for the first time speaks...***
Clay: Okay, we’re here. Now, can you tell me what the hell we’re doing at an old folks home?
Samuel: You’ll find out soon enough, just don’t worry about it now...
Clay: You know how bad you piss me off when you keep secrets from me, right?
Samuel: Clay, relax...
Clay: You’re not trying to get me laid before Gold Rush, are you? Because there are a so many better options than some old woman who is about to expire. I mean, I don’t discriminate when it comes to the strange, but even I have some standards...
Samuel: Stop thinking with your second head. But, since you brought it up, are you ready for Gold Rush?
Clay: Ready for Gold Rush? Have you ever known me not to be ready for a fight?
Samuel: I suppose not. But Gold Rush is going to be a whole different beast than what you’re used to. Three matches in one night. I just want to make sure you’re prepared...
Clay: That just means three times the amount of ass I get to kick in the ring. That just means three times the screen time for The Night Terrors. That just means that I will have three opportunities to show the MPW why we are the greatest force in it’s entire history. Three chances for darkness to prevail over the light. You bet your ass I’m ready Samuel...
Samuel: Would you like to talk strategy?
Clay: I’ve got this one covered. My first opponent, Gabriel Griffin, just got his ass handed to him by Jason X. Hell, I don’t even know if Griffin is going to make it to Gold Rush with the way Jason nearly destroyed his shoulder on Takedown. It’s essentially a bye. And in the unlikelihood that he does make it to Gold Rush, he will be stepping into the ring with a pure monster who will tear off his arm and beat him unconscious with it. I will make him regret stepping into the ring with me...
Samuel: And after that?
Clay: Well, if everything goes to plan, we won’t see Gabriel Griffin back in the MPW ring for a long, LONG time...
Samuel: No, I mean the second and third rounds. You have no clue who you’ll be facing...
Clay: Does it really matter? I mean, look, you have either Chirssy Starr or Jason X advancing, and with the way things have been going lately, I’d put all my money of Jason. I don’t think Chrissy has recovered from the beating that she received from Jason weeks ago, and it will show it the ring. Though, I’m sure she will still be looking for a bit of revenge, so maybe, just maybe, she can wear him down a bit before the second round. Jason might be able to pick on women, and put them through tables, but lets see how he fares in the ring against a someone stronger, someone more vicious, someone much more dangerous, and to put it plainly, someone on another level.Either way, a win by either two of those pathetic fools is a win for me ...
Then, we have “The Savior” Taufik locking up with the MPW TV Champion Lucas King. I’m sure after what we did to poor, innocent Emi Yamamoto on Takedown, Taufik is going to have his paties in a bunch, wanting to exact some revenge on us. But with motivation or no motivation, Taufik is a man who has gone zero for three against The Night Terrors. Does anyone really think he’ll stand a chance in a fourth match? Plus, he’s going to be facing off with a champion in Lucas King, third wheel of those fraud Tag Team Champions Iconic Aggression. What kind of champion would Lucas King be if he could even beat a delusional loser like Taufik? What kind of message would that send to all the fans at home? It would absolutely bury the Television Title, and I know that King won’t let that happen. But there is a reason that King is just a third wheel in Iconic Aggression. He may walk out of Gold Rush with his precious TV title, but there is no way he gets past me for the Gold Rush crown...
Last and certainly least, Tyler Axe against Adam Steele, aka, the bathroom break match. Axe hasn’t won a match since his debut, and Adam Steele, is well, a Steele. We’ve beaten him before, and I’ve beaten him on my own. I will say though, apparently he cut that fool Matt out of his life, and he should be well rested after taking last week off of Takedown. In the end, does it really matter which one of these two advance? They don’t stand a chance to go past the second round anyway, Hell, They should just be thankful they didn’t draw Jason X, or Lucas King, or especially thankful they didn’t face me in the first round. It wouldn’t have ended up pretty for either of them. I’m just hoping Axe can get the win, because I’ve already beaten Steele. Why would anyone believe the outcome would be different this time around...
Samuel: While everything you said is true, just make sure you don’t underestimate your opponent. As pathetic as they may be, just like most other men on the MPW roster, you need to need to treat all three of these matches as though they are the main event of the show. Not because your opponents deserve it, but because this is our first opportunity to show the world of Pay Per View the power of our path. You get to show the world just how great one can be when they accept the truth, when they embrace the darkness and fear, and become the monster than man was originally meant to be. It’s your responsibility to win this tournament, not for a shiny trophy, or the love of the fans, but to deliver our message of the masses. Three wins Clay, and you’ll bring the world closer to our goal of darkness, of truth, and of chaos.
Clay: Speaking of truth, you ready to tell me what we’re doing here?
***Samuel just shakes his head as there is a quick knock on the door. The door opens, and a small, older Asian woman in a lab coat walks in, looking down at a chart. As she looks up, she stops dead in her tracks, seeing The Night Terrors for the first time. She slowly continues into the room, eyes never leaving Samuel or Clay as she closes the door. The doctor walks around her desk, and places the chart down on the desk. She then pulls out her chair from behind the desk, and sits down. After a quick breath, she begins to speak...***
Dr. Kwong: Sorry that I’m late, I had a meeting with the board of directors that went longer than it should have. I am Dr. Kwong, the chief of staff here at Henry Ford Hospice Center...
Samuel: I’m Samuel, and this my brother Clay. I’m the one who received your call last week...
Dr. Kwong: Okay, well, it’s a good thing that the two of you came in today, because he’s taken a turn for the worse...
Clay: I’m sorry, but I have no idea what is going on. Who took a turn for the worse?
Dr. Kwong: I don’t...
Samuel: Dr. Kwong, he didn’t know about the call. He would have never agreed to come here today if I told him what was going on...
Dr. Kwong: So Clay, you have no idea who you’re here to see?
Clay: No already, who is here, and better yet, why am I here?
Dr. Kwong: Your father, Greg Matthews...
Clay: What do you mean my father? My father can’t be here, last I heard, he was in Canada on the run from...
Samuel: Clay, let the Doctor talk...
***Samuel’s eyes turn from ones of confusion to ones of extreme anger as he glares at Samuel. Samuel ignores him as the doctor begins to speak again...***
Dr. Kwong: Well, I hate to be the one tell you this, but Mr. Matthews is suffering from late stages of liver failure due to his drinking habits, and the liver failure is causing his kidneys to fail too. Without a transplant, I can’t see any way Mr. Matthews makes it to September...
Clay: So then get him a liver, or don’t, I don’t care. I haven’t spoken to the man in about twenty years...
Dr. Kwong: I’m sorry, I didn’t know that. But we can’t get him a liver, because of his alcohol problem. He’ll never be approved for the transplant unless someone donates directly to him, and with the amount of time he has left, family is essentially the only option...
Samuel: Dr. Kwong, can you give us a minute? I need to talk to my brother...
Dr. Kwong: Sure, take all the time you need. I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news Mr. Matthews...
Clay: No, not Matthews. It hasn’t been for a long time...
***Dr. Kwong nods in understanding, stands back up, and walks back around the desk. She opens the door, quickly steps out, and gently closes the door behind her. Almost immediately, Clay’s attention turns back to Samuel, and he looks as though he is about to explode with a fury that has yet to be seen from Clay...***
Samuel: Before you say anything, let me explain?
Clay: EXPLAIN? You mean why the hell you would ever bring me to see that bastard? Why you would keep this from me? Go ahead, I’d love to hear it...
Samuel: You need this. You need closure...
Clay: What am I, a bitch on his period?
Samuel: Just shut the fuck up and listen Clay. You need to this, because this is the only thing holding you back. Look at you. Just the mention of his name brings out something in you. Maybe not fear, but something human, and I can’t have that. This man, who beat you bad enough every night that he had to run from the police to avoid jail, is your last link to the human race. Don’t get me wrong, you’re a monster in the purest form. But I don’t want you to be a monster who will one day be slayed by someone’s knight in shining armor. I want you to be invincible, and they only way to do that is to face that pathetic excuse for a man, and put the past behind you...
Clay: Samuel, I don’t want to. I never want to see that bastard again. I’m afraid I’ll kill him if I see him, without exaggeration...
Samuel: But you have to. Embrace that fear Clay, it’s the only path that you can follow that will lead to your true self. Imagine the pain he is in everyday in his life. He is dying from the inside out. See him pain and take pleasure in it. Say what needs to be said, and the memory of him will fade. The little bit of Tom Matthews that still exists in you will finally be extinguished, and the monster that you are today will be the only thing that remains. It’s what you need before Gold Rush. I’ll always look out for you Clay, and you know, deep down, I’m right...
***As Clay nods in understanding, there is another knock at the door, and the door is opened again by Dr. Kwong...***
Dr. Kwong: I just checked on Mr. Matthews and he’s waking up. Now would be a good time if you would like to see him...
***Clay nods in confirmation, and stands up, closely followed by Samuel. Clay and Samuel leave Dr. Kwong’s office, and close the door behind him. The MPW camera fades to black shortly after...............***
