*Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock*
(The sounds of clocks counting the seconds, minutes, and hours rings through the air as we open in a small dimly lit work shop with clocks all over the walls where Impaler sits behind a desk, an eye loupe resting over his right eye as he works on a pocket watch sitting in the only well-lit spot in the room on a white sheet.)
Impaler (not looking up from his work): Do you all know how to make diamonds? It’s really simple actually, a lump of coal, a lot of pressure, and last but certainly not least… time. Now you could say the MPW is much like a lump of coal right now, no real discernible purpose in its people, but there’s so much potential, and the pressure well sometimes you can’t get that naturally. That’s where The Damned comes in, I guess, we’re the pressure that this company needs to elevate that potential and time well, who knows how long it will take the MPW Roster to rise to the potential of the Damned.
(Impaler picks up a sprocket and holds in up to the light and nods confidently as he places it into the watch.)
Impaler (Still not looking up): This week however the Damned will seek to, let’s say speed up the process as Crow and myself walk into a Six Person High Stakes Ladder Match. If I remember correctly, they call it a “Roll The Dice” Ladder Match so named after the Brief Case that hangs in the balance and awards the holder an opportunity for any Championship of their choosing at any time of their choosing. To me this is a forgone conclusion that the Damned will walk away with that chance and with that the every Champion in this company will be looking over their shoulders wondering when the Damned will strike and take what’s theirs. What more pressure do you need, you up the ante and you up the potential tenfold.
(Impaler places the cover on the back of the watch and holds it up by the chain with pride as it swings like a pendulum in front of his face.)
Impaler: You see from the match name to the name of the event to just the location implies that this is match is a gamble. To me and to Crow it’s the furthest thing from it, it’s like the passage of time. You cannot stop it, you cannot slow it down. It’s a certainty for the Damned. But to four other people who in their minds sit the diluted thought that they actually pose a snowball’s chance in hell and for those people I do have a gift.
(Impaler pulls out three more pocket watches all gilded, all looking like the other as Impaler holds them in front of himself we can see the names of Aeryn, Soul Shadow, Chris Radke, and Chris Cable engraved in their backs.)
Impaler: You see not a thing out of place, and you get to hear the ticking of the time you have, the time we gave you and you can count the minutes, the hour, hell the days, weeks, or more than likely months or years until you receive another opportunity the likes of this again. Soul Shadow, you obviously haven’t learned anything. What you did this past week was play right into the hands of the damned and cost you and Chris Radke a match by trying to beat the holy hell out of me. I did my job and I took a beating, I distracted you and you bought into it hook, line, and sinker. Then what happened Soul, what happened to you? You were jumped, beaten, and humiliated all over again.
(Impaler drops the watch of Soul Shadow as it thuds to the table in front of him.)
Impaler: Then you have Chris Radke...
(Impaler just drops the watch with his name engraved on it, speaking about him would be a waste of air.)
Impaler: But Chris Cable on the other hand, last week you had a chance to team with me and what did you do? You not only tore into Soul Shadow, but you turned it on me and took time to talk about this match. While I kept my eyes on the prize, one thing at a time Chris, hell you probably are already thinking about cashing in the Roll the Dice Briefcase before you’ve even got your hands on it. Now Chris, it’s okay to day dream, it’s okay to imagine yourself as a Champion. You speak of how deserving you are, how much you’ve done, how much you’re going to do. Chris this is not about how much you’ve done or how deserving you are. Hell, in businesses all the time ignore the deserving and pass them over, it happens every day. This is just going to be your forced passing over at the hands of the Damned that’s all. Nothing more, nothing less, that is unless you want to make it more, you want to turn it into something more Chris and receive the same beatings that have been visited upon Soul Shadow.
(Impaler drops the Chris Cable watch and then looks longingly at the watch with Aeryn’s name engraved on it as it swings in the air in front of his face.)
Impaler: Now we have Ms. Ashfield a woman with affiliation with Soul Shadow. What is her affiliation with him, I don’t really know nor do I care. I do know that she’s not been willing to come to his rescue, to support him when that Damned had him beaten, bloodied and broken. This is a woman who has no loyalty, has no pride in Soul Shadow at least not enough to try to rescue his ass from beating, after beating, after beating. So Aeryn, how are we to think you’re brave enough to step into that ring with half of the Damned and do battle in a match that affords us the use of every weapon at our disposal and absolves us of anything we do. It’s the opportunity for yourself that you want, you don’t care about the man who is Soul Shadow, you want that Case for yourself and rightly so, worry about number one right.
(Impaler doesn’t drop the watch he allows it to continue to swing in front of his face.)
Impaler (As he speaks his voice becoming agitated): Every one of you are worrying about you, number one, numero uno, it’s your time right? It’s your time to shine, it’s your time to be the best in the company. That time is on your side?
(Impaler takes the watch with Aeryn’s name etched into the back and violently swings it by the chain and smashes it into the table sending out a spray of tiny watch parts and the casing everywhere.)
Impaler: Your time Aeryn is not now nor will it ever be against the damned.
(Impaler then takes and does the same to the Chris Radke watch and just smiles as he then smashes the watch with Chris Cable’s name on it.)
Impaler: Cable your arrogance is far beyond reproach, you feel that time and effort always lead to reward, not true your time and effort will just lead to your ruination.
(Impaler then picks up the watch with Soul etched into it and laughs heartily as he smashes it into the table five or six times maniacally.)
Impaler: Soul you wanted to be the savior, you wanted to be the great one who stood up to the Damned, how does it feel. How do your wounds feel how do you bones feel. This is just the final step for you, your time is neigh and by god as our witness the Damned will take that Briefcase and everything that you have ever fought for will lay in ruin at your feet. Chris Cable, Radke, Aeryn, Soul Shadow, your time for dreaming is up, reality’s call your names. It’s time for you all to look into the faces of terror and misfortune for this company and at High Stakes you four are looking into the eyes of Cerberus. And when Crow and I finish with you, everything you ever held dear in this company will be in ruin at your feet and the threat to this company in the future will be very real. This is not some veiled threat, no, this is our message ringing out from the roof tops, the winds of change are here and you’re all standing in the eye of that hurricane.
(With that Impaler pushes himself away from the table, stands up and walks out leaving a mess of watch parts and cases laying on the table and strewn about the floor as we still here the ticking of the clocks in the background.)
