~Let’s Begin Shall We……..
From the Journals of Alyssa Rosenberg.
Alyssa Rosenberg Voice: “Journal Entry 10. My research on the individual known as Chris Wilkins aka, Crow continues as my research has brought me over to an old friend and wrestling opponent by the name of Kurt Newman. Kurt knew Chris before the incident with his wife and after. Mr. Newman was not supportive with my cause at first when I first contacted him. After finding out some more information about him, though, it was quite easy to persuade him after I told him my breast size and that I was a very attractive lady who was really lonely. After a few drinks with him, he finally started to open up to me about his past with Crow.
I did my best to edit most of the filth out……and there was a lot of it. A lot of sex jokes. Some were just bad….others were quite funny. He’s a charmer and not too bad to look at with the eyes. Any longer with the flirting and the two of us would have been……never mind. I should have known better from the reports that I’ve read about him. But the humor and the jokes quickly went aside once we got to the subject of the matter. You could tell just by talking to him that the subject was one that he didn’t like talking about. It brought up a lot of memories that he’s kept away for so long and he didn’t want to relive them. The sadness in his eyes and the tone of his voice……you just knew after a conversation like this that Kurt knew Crow better than anyone else in the world.
But looking back to that night……something tells me that maybe Kurt was playing me. To try to see the softer side of Kurt Newman. To see that he’s normal just like everyone else and that he’s got feelings. Feelings that I felt sad about bringing back. I felt so bad for him that I really wanted to do……well to ease his pain and have sex with him…….but I didn’t. I kept my poseur and left home without him. Hopefully with these new findings from Kurt, I’ll be able to understand the individual known as ……….”
Kurt Newman: “What you doing up honey. Why don’t you come back to bed and you show me that one move that you learned in medical school again!”
Alyssa Rosenberg Voice: “Damn it Kurt! I was in……………………….”
~With that, the voices end, leaving just the blackness of a screen for a few seconds. The blackness soon turns to lights as the image of Kurt Newman can be seen with a drink in hand at a bar in Chicago Illinois. Kurt, who’s showing off his signature smile swag, lifts up his drink, and takes a sip of it before placing it back down on the table.
Kurt Newman: “I’m telling you darlin, if you were a bowling alley, I’d roll my balls up and down your lanes all night.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “Oh…….that’s a unique pick up line Mr. Newman. Now I’ve started recording so if you would tell me your name.”
Kurt Newman: “The Man That Puts Awe into Awesome!”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “No, your real name please.”
Kurt Newman: “Captain Wonder Pants.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “No.”
Kurt Newman: “The Big Bad Voodoo Daddy.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “Nope.”
Kurt Newman: “The Inventor of the Mississippi Mud Slide.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “I don’t even want to know what that is.”
Kurt Newman: “The guy that puts cock into cocky.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “Mr. Newman, please.”
Kurt Newman: “Ok, ok, sheesh……..my name is Kurt Newman.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “And what is your profession?”
Kurt Newman: “Millionaire play boy, CEO of Newman Inc., and part time wrestler.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “Alright, and how do you know Christopher Wilkins?”
~The cockiness and coolness on Kurt’s face soon goes away as the name brings up old memories that he’d soon like to never think of again.
Kurt Newman: “I told you that I didn’t want to talk about Chris.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “You knew this was the main reason why I wanted to talk to you Kurt.”
Kurt Newman: “All I heard was drinks with a beautiful girl. My unique friendship with Chris is personal and it’s something that doesn’t need to be reported about because this is between myself and Chris and no one else. Why you have this need to know more about Crow is beyond me. My advice…….just walk away. I’ve been feuding with Crow for years now and it hasn’t been a pretty feud. It’s been personal and it’s been a feud where neither one of us barely walked away from. I’m one of the lucky few to walk away from Crow who’s still mentally and physically intact.”
~Kurt finishes his drink and is about to leave the table, but stops when Alyssa places a bottle of scotch on the table. Kurt looks at the bottle for a few seconds and decides to stay as he sits himself back down on the chair. He picks the bottle up and begins to pour himself a drink.
Kurt Newman: “I first met Chris over a decade ago at a wrestling school in Chicago. We were trained by the legendary Mark Benway. It was hard work. Early mornings and late nights training. We got beat up and got the shit kicked out of us daily. Myself and Chris worked well together because the two of us were similar in many ways. Messed up childhoods, dirt poor, and hoping like hell that our love for wrestling would lead us to be successful wrestlers. We did the independent wrestling scene for years. Wrestled in High School gyms and bingo halls from the east coast to the west coast. Giving it our all, hoping that a wrestling promotion would see our stuff and hire us. The day finally came when we signed up to SWF. Crow went solo while I was tag teaming with a dude the company wanted me to team with. Didn’t last long. I later teamed up with Chris while he was feuding with some dark characters. Never been a fan of the whole emo scene where they do most of their shoping at Hot Topic, but I was going to back my buddy up. It was during that time when Chris lost his wife.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “How did Chris take the loss.”
Kurt Newman: “He killed himself because of it. That’s how hard he took it. The day his wife died was the day that Chris died and Crow took over. The man that I once knew, my friend, and brother from another mother was no longer there. He was there physically…..but mentally…….he was gone. All was left was a ticked off individual who just wanted to see the world burn.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “How was your friendship during that time?”
Kurt Newman: “It was over. I tried to help, but Crow didn’t want any of it. That and he hated me the most out of everyone in this world.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “And why was that?”
~Kurt grows silent as you can start to see tears starting to form around his eyes as he relives his past. He downs his drink and pours himself another one as he does his best to keep his composer as he begins to talk.
Kurt Newman: “Chris’s wife……..she was a good girl. One of the most innocent women I’ve ever known. She was cute, she was smart, and she was the one woman that you would be stupid not to marry. I remember countless nights where the three of us would go bar hoping and just have a good time. Laugh it up, tell stupid stories, and watch as I hit on woman and mostly get rejected with a slap across the face. Those were the happiest moments in my life. I’d kill to get those days back. I would trade everything in my life to get those days back.”
~The tears start to roll down his face now as he takes a sip of his drink.
Kurt Newman: “I was there when she died. She was days from giving birth and everyone was looking forward to getting that kid out. She wanted to get out of the apartment and get some fresh air and move her legs around. So we went to the grocery store…….a grocery store that we’ve been to hundreds of times. The guy who owned the place knew us by name. We were picking up some food……..I left her side for one minute to go get some apples……and then boom. Gun fire. Panic hit and I ran over to where I left her…….and when I saw her again……she laid dead on the ground with a bullet hole in her chest. I did my best to save her life. I applied pressure, hoping the blood would stop flowing out of her. But it never did. Her blood was on my hands……I’ve never been able to wipe that blood off since then. I left her side for one minute……and she died. I play that clip in my head over and over and over again…….I imagine what would happen if I was there. Would that scenario change? Would she have died if I was there to protect her? Would I have died instead? If I could change the past. If I could switch places with Chris’s wife……..I would had. But that’s the past and I’ve lived with that moment since that day…….and so has Crow. He blamed me for her death and wanted to kick my ass because of it. So we fought. He wanted to kill me in that ring and I fought to survive. We wrestled in every type of match that you can imagine. Our last match was a barbed wire ladder match. It was bloody. It was gory. It was painful to be a part of and painful to watch. It made us famous around the wrestling world. But we didn’t care, it was personal between us. Those matches never did bury the hatchet between us.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “And what is the relationship between you two now?”
~Kurt wipes the tears from his face with his sleeve.
Kurt Newman: “Not on speaking terms.”
Alyssa Rosenberg Off Screen: “And if you could say something to him, what would you say?”
~Kurt pauses again as he finishes his drink. He looks at the empty glass and swirls the ice cubes inside of it around as he thinks about what to say. Finally, Kurt looks up to the camera, his eyes red from the tears from before and with a soft voice, speaks.
Kurt Newman: “I’m sorry.”
~With that, the screen goes black. Ending the video feed.
~The scene begins again in the MPW arena with tonight’s broadcast of Reloaded. The fans are wrestles as they look down at the ring to find Crow sitting in the middle of the wrestling ring. The arena is darkened and a single ray of light falls down on Crow who sits behind a table with a black radio microphone standing in the middle of it.
~Crow slowly leans over the table and begins to speak into the microphone as the crowd dies down and listens.
Crow: “Iva Toguri D'Aquino……was one of the most revealed human beings in history. I bet no one in this arena even knows who she is. How about the name of Tokyo Rose? That name bring up anything? Maybe 99 percent of the people in this arena know who she is. Back in the day, she was the most hated individual during World War Two, probably second only to Hitler. Iva, who also went by the name of Orphan Ann was one of a dozen English-speaking female broadcasters of Japanese propaganda during World War Two. But she was the most known and most hated one out of them all. During her radio broadcast of The Zero Hour on Radio Tokyo, she would bring the morale’s of so many soldiers fighting on the western front by doing propaganda skits and slanted news reports as well as playing popular American music to make the solders think about home. She was one of the most listened to disc jockeys in the world.
She was born over in the United States and while visiting Japan, World War Two started. Unable to go back home and because of her skills of speaking English, the Japanese used her on the radio to lower the moral of US soldiers. She refused at first. She agreed to play music, but she didn’t want to perform the propaganda part of it.
What Tokyo didn’t know was that she was going to visit the captured prisoners in camps, and when the Japanese found out about this, the Japanese thought that she was doing their work. So when she went to go visit the American prisoners at these camps, the prisoners didn’t trust her at first. Here was the most hated woman…..the woman that made them think of home every day, the woman that toyed with them and their emotions…….coming to their camps. Tokyo didn’t trust her either because she was an American citizen. So she was without a country and without friends. But she convinced the Americans that she was on their side. And she saved their lives. She smuggled in food. She smuggled in medicine. She risked her life to save ours.
She would do broadcast with the Zero Hour. She would always start the Zero Hour saying hey boys; this is your old friend Orphan Ann with some new records from the states. You better listen to them while you can because late tonight our bombers are going to be bombing the 43rd group while you’re asleep so listen to them while you can.
The guys in Tokyo didn’t understand what was really going on. They thought that she was demoralizing these troops…..but instead……she was telling them their plans. She was telling the Americans that they were going to be under attack and that they better get ready. She saved lives.
When the war was over, a Navy officer came over and burn the radio station down to the ground. But before he did, he wanted to kill Iva Toguri D'Aquino. But before he did, he took her microphone……this microphone…..and brought it back to the states with him. It has not been used since then to broadcast a voice to the masses…..until now. Tokyo Rose was telling the truth through this microphone. That she was trying to help the American people.
When the war was over, the investigators from the US government came over and investigated her. They found out from the prisoners of the war that she was helping them. They told the investigators that they were helping her and that she was helping them to help win the war. And so she was let go. But when she was coming back to America, the place where she was born and helped during the war……what happen? A radio broadcaster by the name of Walter Wincher found out about it and thought this was awful that she could even come here. So he started to gin up the American people and started to spread lies and the government, who needed to be popular and needed to do the popular thing, they went over and started to perjured themselves and lie about her. She went to prison as a traitor for her country. It was a lie.
She was labeled as a wolf my sheep. She was not to be trusted, even though she wanted to help. She wanted to save. She wanted to help our solders my sheep……and she did. She helped countless of people during the war. But because she was labeled a wolf by blinded people……….they treated her as such and destroyed her life because of it. The same thing is happening to me now my sheep. All I want to do is help. All I want to do is save. But I’m being labeled as a wolf and far worse things. It’s unfair……..but at the end of the day……I know I’m right……and I know that their wrong……..and I will continue to spread my good word to the public so that their eyes will be open. My followers are growing every day and it will continue to grow because the human race needs my teaching more than ever. This world……is full of blackness and sins. I’m trying to bring light to this world. It’s hard work……..but I’m going to do it because I can.”
~The crowd in the arena boos as Crow pauses and stares off into the darkness. A slight grin grows across his face as he stares back into the camera.
Crow: “Roxi……last time we wrestled, I took you lightly. All I saw was a little girl wanting to play with the big boys……a girl who hadn’t succeeded with playing with the big boys for months. A girl who wanted to play with fire…….but got burnt to many times. But you proved me wrong Roxi. You proved everyone wrong. You beat me and later on won the World Title from Trey Baxter. Your dreams finally came true and you became the best wrestler in MPW. You’re on cloud number nine right now Roxi. You’re climbing higher and higher and higher each and every day that you hold onto that title.
There’s always a ceiling, though, Roxi that stops us from soaring to high. It’s called reality. Everyone hits it and it comes in many different forms. Just like Icarus Roxi, sooner or later, you’re going to be flying to high and to close to the sun and eventually…..you’re going to lose your wings and fall to your death as you returned back to earth with the rest of us.
That’s what I plan on doing tonight Roxi. I plan on clipping your wings and forcing you back to reality with the rest of us…….and then I’m going to let the maggots of this world have their way with you and eat you alive until there is nothing left of you but bone.
Roxi………this time around…….I’m going to beat you down to the ground. I’m going to humiliate you. I’m going to show that though you have that World Title around your waste…..you’re still human. You can still feel pain. You can still bleed. Your bones can break and your spirit can be torn. Yes, you may be the World Champion…..but you’re still nothing special. You’re not unique. You’re not an individual snow flake. You’re just a little girl who’ll eventually have her neck broken because she couldn’t handle the pressure of being a World Champion.
All that pressure. All that attention. Having everyone look up to you for inspiration. To be a symbol of a wrestling federation. To have a wrestling federation with all the staff and wrestlers on your shoulders right now Roxi………your shoulders must be getting sore by now. How long do you think you can keep this up Roxi? How long until you eventually break down and go mentally insane from all the pressure? A week? A month? 6 months? A year? I know the type of individual you are. You play the mean girl who acts like a bitch…..but deep down in your soul, I know you’re a woman who has feelings. She likes to be called pretty and doesn’t like negative comments being thrown at her. You’re one spoon full of ice cream away from being an emotional downward spiral.
You’re too proud of an individual to say how you truly feel. I know you’d like to drop that World Title around your waist and go back to be irrelevant around here. It’s ok. I understand. I’ve been listening to how you’ve truly been feeling since day one. I’ll take that pressure off you Roxi. I’ll take that weight and place it on my shoulders while you go back to being the lovable loser that the fans love.
Tonight Roxi, I’m going to beat you down like you’ve never been beaten down before. This time around, I’m not going to be holding back. No Damned and no Resistance. Just you and me Roxi. Two wrestlers wanting to prove their points to the rest of the company. At the end of the day……I will prevail…….because my words and my actions have meaning while yours……..their fabricated from self-interest and fiction. Created from a mine of a little girl who only wants to be a princess.
May God have mercy on your soul Roxi………because I will give you none.”
~With that, Crow leans back in his chair and stares into the camera before the light in the ring goes off. With that, the scene ends with the arena covered in complete blackness.
