The scene is the balcony of a Winnipeg hotel room. Valentina Madison is on said balcony, overlooking as much of the city as she can see. She’s certainly got plenty on her mind after recent events. On the positive end of things, she’s become more acclimated to the insanity that professional wrestling can be after all the chaos and insanity that she went through at the last Reloaded. She still, however, has plenty to learn, but she’s getting used to it. Still, something is bothering her.
Valentina Madison: This match in a couple of days might as well be a handicap match.
She shakes her head as she thinks about Christian Carter. She’s grown extremely frustrated with him because of his erratic behavior, and in the back of her mind, she’s not even close to being over the fact that he made their match a couple of weeks back an absolute farce.
Valentina Madison: I hope he does get his act together, but I don’t think even he wants to. I have to rely on him, but I don’t know if I can….
Valentina hears her cell phone ringing in her pocket. She reaches inside it and pulls it out. She sees that her father is calling her.
Valentina Madison: Speaking of people that I don’t know if I can ever rely on…
Valentina merely puts the phone back in her pocket without answering it. As she noted before, her father, like Christian Carter, was an alcoholic and he’s overcome it for the most part, but there’s still a sense of pain from a distance in their relationship. Valentina looks at the scar on her left forearm, brought on by the night her father, in a drunken state, smashed a beer bottle over it.
Valentina Madison: All these years, he’s still never apologized for that.
Valentina hears her phone go off again. She takes it out of her pocket to check it a second time and she sees that her father has left her a voicemail. She’s very tentative about what to do with it, but she decides to take a listen to it and see what he has to say. She waits for the voicemail to start playing, and after a few seconds, it does.
Valentina’s father (via voicemail): Hey Valentina. Sorry, you’re probably busy. Listen, I’ve been doing some thinking and I realized that it’s been a long time since we’ve ever spent any time together. I understand you’ve got some bad feelings from the last few times and I know that things aren’t what they used to be between us when you were younger, but I still care for you, even if my actions don’t necessarily show it. What do you say? Perhaps a Blackhawks game sometime in the next two weeks would be a good thing for you? You like hockey right? If not, we can work something out. Anyway, just call me back as soon as you can. Take care.
Valentina puts her phone back in her pocket and now she looks a little frustrated.
Valentina Madison: He’s still so out of touch with me, but that’s a former alcoholic for you. I’m glad he doesn’t suffer from alcoholism anymore but even then, the pain still lingers. That’s the sad thing about Christian Carter’s situation. Even if he recovers from this and becomes a better person, his loved ones will still be very tentative about having anything to do with him, because they’re afraid he’ll relapse and they know that they can’t depend on him. I’ve been worrying about my father relapsing for nearly three years now.
Valentina sighs.
Valentina Madison: I can’t, for the life of me, have any compassion for Christian because of the way he insulted me two weeks ago. And yet, I’m so curious about him. I really wonder what those closest to him are feeling every time they see him become such an embarrassment. My goodness, talk about emotional trauma for his closest family members seeing him like that. I know how it feels, my father was like that, and even now, he disappoints me. Part of me wants to give him this chance, after all…
Valentina pauses for a small bit to avoid getting too emotional.
Valentina Madison: My love for wrestling and desire to be part of it was a result of me sitting down and watching wrestling with him when I was a little girl. I’ll never forget those moments because they mean everything to me, but then again, this is about the fourth or fifth time that he’s called for something like this. Every single time, I respond back to him and set something up and he always no shows and makes an excuse.
Valentina thinks about Christian Carter again and everything he’s learned about him. She feels very sympathetic at the moment because she knows what it’s like for a loved one to turn into a complete let down.
Valentina Madison: Poor Shelley, I hope she’s staying strong through this, just like I had to when I dealt with it with my father. As far as this upcoming match goes, if Christian disgraces the match and insults me again, I’ll have to take matters into my own hands because having gone through this with my father, I can’t depend on him. I won’t depend on him. He’s nothing but a misogynistic, selfish alcoholic that refuses to do anything to help himself, and I refuse to let someone like him drag me down!
Valentina thinks some more about the voicemail.
Valentina Madison: I guess I should go inside and think about everything first.
Valentina goes back inside her hotel room to do just that, as the scene comes to a close.
October 27, 2013
Valentina is in a large setting in Winnipeg, which looks like it is some type of warehouse. Why she’s here is anyone’s guess, but she looks as confident and determined as ever. She is well aware that she’s been through the ringer as of late and she knows the battle ahead will be far from easy.
Valentina Madison: Tonight, without question, is my biggest match yet and I’m determined to win at all costs. After all, there’s a potential Television championship shot on the line in this match. The way this match was set up definitely adds some intrigue to it all when you consider that the two people on each team clearly have no love lost for one another. I know there are a few people that think that I’m just satisfied with even making it into this wrestling industry and making it to MPW. I’m not. I didn’t come here just to say that I lived a dream of mine, I came here to be successful as well and that’s what I am going to be whether anyone wants to accept that or deny that. Last week was unbelievable and I’ll be the first to admit that it felt great being part of a revolution last night against those obnoxious, ignorant, ingrates that think they can just run this show the way they see fit. The Ignoramus Association wants to call it unfair? Now that’s what I call a moment of hypocrisy. If the situation was the other way around, they’d be singing their own praises for it!
Valentina cools down a bit and thinks about the match at hand. Her sympathetic side comes out, and it’s clear who she’s about to address.
Valentina Madison: There are plenty of conflicting emotions for me with this match. If there’s anyone I really feel sorry for, it’s Chrissy Starr. Chrissy, I’ve studied you quite extensively and there’s no doubt that you’ve got a bright future ahead of you. But, in competition, things are the way they are and I’ll have to beat you to be one step closer to that Television title shot. You’ve done well for yourself, you’re a former title holder in WWO after all, but I just get the sense from you that there’s something holding you back from achieving greater success. After all, that partner that you have the misfortune of having, as much as I dislike to admit it, has had your number lately. Whatever scars those stitches left in your scalp after they came out would likely be a testament to that. I do believe that you deserve this television title shot based on potential and merit, but based on what you’ve done lately, I’m a little more concerned about that. Ultimately Chrissy, I have nothing but respect for you and quite frankly, plenty of sympathy too because I’m sure it must be a burden on your shoulders to have to team up with someone you detest past the maximum. In any event, best of luck tonight.
Valentina’s emotion changes from sympathetic to angry.
Valentina Madison: Laila, you want to call me a “blemish”, but everything you and your group of bullies do is a blemish to this company and this industry. I have grown so tired of you three and I was very glad that you three finally got what you deserved last week. You want to say that Christian and I don’t deserve to be in this match. Christian, you can make a valid case when you consider his behavior and to be quite honest, I don’t even recall the last time he ever even won a match. But as for me Laila, I haven’t lost yet and the Television championship is the first step on the ladder to ultimate success down the road for people like Chrissy Starr and I. Based on logic that you clearly didn’t think through, why don’t I deserve this match? Is it because you dislike me so much? What did I ever even do to you to make you dislike me so much? You’re the one that started this between you and me when you came after me for speaking my mind about your posse. Why should I stand idly by and watch Trey and Jackson constantly refer to women like Roxi and Chrissy as “whores”? The fact that you not only let them do it, but encourage it shows you the kind of woman you really are. Ironically, it’s hard to blame you. You have no respect for even yourself, how can you possibly have any respect for your own gender? You don’t even want the championship so you could call yourself a champion, you only want it to hurt someone that you claimed abused you. I’m not going to dive into that situation too much, because whatever happened, happened long before I ever came around, but people like you that put personal agendas above this business completely revile me!
Valentina isn’t done yet, as she’s still angry.
Valentina Madison: Christian Carter, I can’t believe you! As if you weren’t vile before, you take the sexist route and say that women have no place in a match like this. I am so close to just exploding right now because every time I think about you, I get terribly angry, so, I decided to do something about that just so you can get some knowledge on how I really feel about you. First off…
Valentina brings a dodge ball into the scene.
Valentina Madison: I saved one of these from Calgary. Secondly, look over there…
Valentina points to a section of the warehouse where there are a stack of beer bottles directly in range of where she’s standing.
Valentina Madison: This is what I think about you, your drinking problem and the way you insulted me earlier this month when you chose not to take me seriously and head to the ring drunk. So Christian, I advise you to take a breathalyzer test, make sure you’re sober and if you’re not, get sober so you can get the message.
Valentina chucks the dodge ball as hard as she can at the stack of beer bottles. It’s a direct hit as tons of bottles come crashing down and beer spills all over the place.
Valentina Madison: I’ll deal with you this week Christian, because whether you’re sober or not, I know I can win this match. Then next week Christian, the Hunt for Success will go right through you as I earn a shot at the Television championship!
Valentina departs and the scene ends.
