*The scene opens.
Sitting outside the medics room in the Target Center, Aeryn Ashfield holds an ice pack to her back. Wincing as the bruise from Christian Carters chair shot reacts angrily against the cold compression before bringing a welcome relief. She closes her eyes and leans her head back against the wall as she waits for her partners assessment to end.
So this is what it must have been like for Soul all the times I have been in there. I feel sick. Why do I feel sick? ... I'm worried. Why am I worried? I know he's okay, he walked in there fine ... Pull yourself together Ashfield!
The door next to her finally clicks open. Opening her eyes she tilts her head towards it, looking up at Soul as he walks out into the corridor.*
Thank god!
Aeryn: So what did he say?
Soul: I'll be fine, no lasting damage other than some bruising and a headache.
*Aeryn smiles and stands up next to him, still clutching her ice pack.*
Aeryn: That's good to hear. I was expecting a concussion after that tornado warning.
*She reaches up and touches his face gently.*
Soul: Ugh..easy
*She snatches her hand away*
Aeryn: Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you. Just glad your okay that's all.
Soul: I'm fine hun ... *he smiles down at her, an inquisitive expression crosses his face.* ... What's going on?
*Aeryn looks back at him baffled.*
Aeryn: What do you mean?
Soul: Where is that hot headedness of yours ... usually when this type of thing happens your all up and ready to kill someone on sight ... but your standing there all calm and ... it's weird.
*Aeryn chuckles.*
Aeryn: So you'd rather I be rampaging around after Carter?
Soul: No, not at all ... this is just different. What happened?
*After considering his question for a few moments*
Aeryn: It must be your good influence, I guess your just beginning to rub off on me ... *She smiles broadly at him* ... Seriously though I was worried about you, I wasn't going to leave this room until I knew that you were okay. Christian Carter can wait until Aftershock to get what's coming to him.
*Soul smiles down at her, pulling her towards him he wraps her up in his arms. She lays her head against his chest.*
Areyn: *Smirking* Plus if I really wanted to find him now all I'd have to do is look in the nearest bar, i'm sure he'd be in one of them getting reacquainted with his friend Jim Beam.
*Soul laughs and lets her go.*
Soul: Come on. Lets get out of here and get some food, I've had enough of this place for one night.
Aeryn: Best idea I've heard all night.
*They turn and walk off down the corridor.*
*Sitting alone at her home in Chicago. Aeryn Ashfield rests casually in an arm chair. Her legs crossed over at the knee, her arms resting lightly on the padded arms. She sits for the longest time almost motionless apart from the rise and fall of her chest as she breathes. The soft ticking of a clock in the background is all that can be heard until the sound of her voice suddenly cuts through the silence of the room.*
Aeryn: So what have we learnt this week MPW fans? ... Well, first and foremost we've learnt that, being drunk at work wont get you banned from appearing in an MPW ring ... Secondly, taking a cheap chair shot at champions and bitching about “your tough luck” will get you a title shot, at a pay per view no less...because it shows initiative?
*Aeryn smirks a little in disdain, doing her best to keep her tone in check.*
Have I missed something? Have Soul Shadow and I been working our arses off and taken bloody, violent beatings for nothing?
*Leaning forward towards the camera, she moves towards the edge of her seat.*
I apologise if I am misunderstand the way things work around here but the last I checked people had to earn their shots in wrestling, in life. Phoenix Rising, we had to earn our shot at these! *She raises one of the tag belts, holding it by the strap.* Our belts!
*Almost shouting the last words, her eyes blaze in defiance.*
Over the past few weeks we have gone through hell to get our hands on these. Broken noses, concussions, pulled and twisted limbs, bumps, bruises and blood we took it all from Iconic Aggression, took it all and left their bodies laying in a heap in an empty arena, unable to wipe their own blood out of their eyes. All in order to be called champions. So if you Christian Carter, and your voluntary partner Valentina Madison think that you are going to be able to waltz into Aftershock and pull off an upset on us, just because you created your selves and unearned and undeserved opportunity. Then I am afraid that you are sadly mistaken.
*Aeryns tone softens slightly, as she lowers her voice to address Valetina.*
Valentina, I don't understand you. You have spoken about your father and his issues with alcoholism, and I feel for you with that I really do...But I don't understand, having already gone through that, why you would then willingly choose to align yourself with another one?
You have so much talent just waiting to be released yet you are allowing yourself to be held back by a tag team partner that has openly stated that he will gladly “do it on his own”. Does that sound like someone that will have your back, that you can rely on and trust to be there when things start to go wrong? It doesn't to me.
Just think ahead to our match and picture this. You are in the ring doing your best to get to your corner, Carter is barking out orders but you are unable to respond. He's getting more and more angry, your not doing as he says, your costing him his chance at these title belts ... he is a lone wolf after all, a law unto himself. If you wont do what he wants, if you cant get to him to tag in. What is to stop him taking you out of the equation? ... He's already told you to stay out of his way in the ring ,that he doesn't trust you. That he can't stand you! In what capacity does that sound like the makings of new tag team champions?!
So back to my original question, what are you trying to do Valentina? Save Christian by giving him some purpose? Atone for some deep seated guilt over your fathers issue? ... What ever it is, this isn't the place for it. I hate to tell you but Christian Carter cannot be saved and further more , Christian Carter does not want to be saved. Drinking is his purpose, hell I bet he'll even have a slug of Jack right before he walks out of the curtains ... *she trembles her hand* to steady his nerves.
Christian Carter, I understand why you would want these belts. You were left on your own in 2012 to challenge for them against Violent Impact. Understandable you still harbour a grudge. But your grudge is not with Phoenix Rising, we didn't rob you of the chance to be a tag team champion, we are not Violent Impact ... But keep crossing us like you did on Reloaded and we will most certainly deal out some violent impact.
For this match Carter is suggest you take advantage of that rare moment of sobriety because your going to need all of your wits about you to even get close to getting the job done.
Phoenix Rising has proven that we are the perfect unit and from day one we have taken on anyone and everything that the MPW has thrown at us without question ... We have also defeated everyone that the MPW has thrown at us, without question. Soul Shadow may disapprove of my arrogant approach but having already beaten the toughest tag team that the MPW has to offer, I feel I have the right to be. This little rag tag team of drunkenness and daddy issues will just be the next tandem to go down in flames, courtesy of the Pheonix.
MPW faithful here endeth the lesson.
*Aeryn returns to her previous sedate state as the camera focuses on the tag title places across her stomach. The scene fades.*
