I must be going insane right? How could I possibly, after all these weeks of preaching against alcoholism and against people like Christian Carter, turn around and team up with him now? I’m well aware that it’s a question that’s been going around all week long and I’ve been preparing myself to answer that question. I’ll explain my motivations in short order.
Post-Reloaded: November 3
Valentina Madison is inside of her locker room after the show ended. She is in some high spirits coming off of a huge win, in more ways than one, against Impaler. She’s feeling great because she managed to get some people talking about her. Valentina has never been one to seek any fame or fortune, but she does want to make a name for herself in this business and getting that win over Impaler is definitely a step in the right direction. However, that’s not the only thing she did that has people talking. She decided that she was going to be teaming up with Christian Carter to get a shot at the tag team titles. She’s looking in the mirror, trying to sort everything out. Of course, there’s nothing but good, positive thoughts unlike last week.
Valentina Madison: What a great night!
Valentina smiles, showing her utmost confidence at the situation she happens to find herself in. She is however, deep in thought.
Valentina Madison: I look in the mirror, and I don’t see a failure. I’m grateful for that, because it appears that throughout my whole life, somehow, failure kept trying to find me. If it wasn’t because of my father, or his alcoholism, it was due to some stressful situation going on in my life. I’ve had a couple of boyfriends in the past that turned out to be monsters inside and they would do whatever it took to try to drag me down to their depths of despair. I’ve even had great friends from my past who I always believed had bright futures ahead of them throw all of their potential away and then they only contacted me if they ever needed me for anything for I was one of the few to screw up.
Valentina continues her reflection to her, well, reflection.
Valentina Madison: I look in the mirror and I see so much hope for the future. Last week, I wasn’t even sure if I was cut out to make it in this business. I almost made a choice to drink myself into oblivion the way Christian Carter did. But, a second wind of positivity prevented that and once I saw the light and learned how to cope with a disappointing loss, I made the decision to stay positive throughout this entire week and thankfully, it all paid off in the end.
Valentina looks down and starts to think about her big victory over Impaler that she got tonight. She knows that there was nobody out there giving her a chance.
Valentina Madison: I couldn’t have possibly been able to bounce back and defeat the largest man on the MPW roster. At least, that’s what many pessimists thought.
She goes through the match in her head, from the moment the bell rang, to the moment she hit Impaler with the Wildcat Pounce and got the win. She felt an amazing rush that she had never felt before. But then, she hears her phone ringing. She walks toward her locker, where her bag is, and she takes out her phone. She sees that her best friend Danny is calling her and she immediately answers.
Valentina Madison: Hello?
Danny: You’re really into this wrestling thing aren’t you?
Valentina Madison: Why? Were you watching? Come on, there’s no shame in admitting it.
Danny: As a matter of fact, I was. I heard that you were going to wrestle this tall behemoth of a man so I decided to tune in and watch you get killed!
Valentina Madison: Danny…..
Danny: I’m kidding, of course. I just couldn’t believe that it happened. Do you think you’re some kind of giant slayer now that you beat him?
Valentina Madison: No, I’m not going to consider myself a giant slayer. Impaler was someone that was physically intimidating, sure. But I knew what his weaknesses were and I capitalized on him. Holy crap, I’m still in a rush just thinking about the fact that I beat him.
Danny: That’s great Val. Now, what were you drinking tonight?
Valentina immediately grows confused.
Valentina Madison: What are you talking about? I’ve decided to quit social drinking.
Danny: Really? Because you couldn’t tell by the fact that you decided to team up with someone that I would think you would consider your worst enemy because he brought back so many brutal memories of your childhood.
Valentina Madison: Well…
Danny: Although, to be fair, you had just won your match when you made that choice. Knowing you, you complicated things for yourself just like you’ve always done by making a decision in the heat of the moment. Remember the time you were so gutted by not making it to Princeton that you immediately chose to go to Arizona State?
Valentina Madison: I get your point Danny, but I thought it through and changed my mind to a choice that made much more sense.
Danny: I’m glad you did, and I hope you do the same thing here too. But, that’s all I’m going to say. I don’t want to dampen the mood for your big night. Stay up alright?
Valentina Madison: You too, thanks!
The phone call ends and Valentina thinks about her decision for a few moments.
Valentina Madison: I don’t think I’m changing my mind this time. I know what I’m doing….
Many fans are hoping she knows what she’s doing, because a large portion of the MPW fans are questioning her decision, and would for the next week.
November 10, 2013, Pre-Aftershock.
Valentina is in the streets of Detroit, a rather odd place for her to be in, a couple of hours before Aftershock. She’s still in the same positive mood she was in a week ago after her big night, and now she’s going to speak her mind and express how she truly feels.
Valentina Madison: The question on everyone’s mind: why, after everything I’ve been through with alcoholism and my contempt for Christian Carter, would I ever want to team up with him?
Valentina laughs for a few seconds.
Valentina Madison: If you’ve ever seen the movie 8 Mile, and I figured it would be a fitting reference considering we’re in Detroit, it comes down to one word: opportunity. I’ll say for a fact that I do not condone Christian Carter’s actions or the way he challenged for the tag team title shot. But the way I look at it, he left the opportunity open for ANYBODY to be his partner to get a shot at the titles. I didn’t see anyone else in the locker room jumping for that shot, so that’s where I came in and took the opportunity. Christian, I am going to address you for a couple here. I am not doing this for you, I am not doing this to help you out, or to save you from your demons. I’ve decided long ago that you were a lost cause and that you’re never going to overcome your demons. I’ve lost compassion for people like you and I have already been through the ringer in a tag team match with you a couple of weeks ago for the TV title shot. So I’ll say it here Christian, I’ll stay out of your way, but if you do anything that costs me the tag team titles, you’re going to be seeing a side of me that nobody has ever seen before. You’ve been warned again.
Valentina pauses to think about the challenge she has ahead.
Valentina Madison: Let me just say, for the record, that I have nothing but respect for the champions, Aeryn Ashfield and Soul Shadow, otherwise known as Phoenix Rising. Believe me, I was rooting hard for you two to finally dethrone the Iconic Aggression and take yet another championship from them and I was so proud of you guys. But, that’s where it all ends. As much respect as I have, this is merely business and my decision to team up with Christian Carter is not meant to be anything against you two personally. As I said earlier, it was an opportunity that I could not pass up, even if it is with someone that reminds me of my abusive, alcoholic father. This industry is a game and how you play it goes a long way to how far you go. Simply put, my decision was an example of gamesmanship. Aeryn, you would know all about gamesmanship. In spite of the fact that you and Soul Shadow are best of friends, you didn’t let it stop you from being at your best at High Stakes when you won the Dice Ladder Match. It’s the same with me. I wasn’t going to let my personal feelings for someone I have contempt for allow me to pass up this opportunity.
Soul Shadow, I can tell that you think of me as what I am, an inexperienced rookie. But if anything, I know for a fact that I proved that I am so much more than that. Beating Impaler was no picnic, and I know that beating you and Aeryn won’t be either. But last week, all the events gave me every reason to believe in myself even more than I ever did. I saw the lows of two weeks ago when I failed to get a Television championship match and I saw the highs of last week. I may not have that experience that you do or that Aeryn do, but experience was a non-factor last week wouldn’t you say? After all, I think it takes a special kind of wrestler to be able to topple a giant that had SIXTEEN YEARS worth of experience and who had been a champion in previous organizations. There are not many that can say that they’ve done that Soul Shadow and I know you’ve been there and done that. But the point I want to make to you is the fact that I am not going to let my lack of experience be a hindrance. I am not going to allow anybody to doubt me because of my rookie status. I feel like I’m in prime time now, and becoming a Tag Team Champion would only serve to validate that. Phoenix Rising, with all due respect, the Hunt for Success continues with a tag team championship victory over you two!
