(Sorry about the length... was sick all weekend and wanted to get something up despite how I felt)
{The camera opens with a shot of the nighttime skyline of Nashville, seen from the balcony of the top-level suite of a five-star hotel located in the heart of the city. The shot slowly pulls back from the lovely landscape, revealing a table located just behind the railing. On top of the table sits pairs of objects with a golden color… two flutes filled with champagne and the twin title belts for the MPW World Tag Team Championship. The camera remains focused on these gleaming objects for a short while, before one of the flutes is picked up and taken from view. The angle changes to follow the direction of the hand, catching sight of Soul Shadow draining the remaining drink from the glass. With a satisfied sigh, he replaces it on the table.}
Soul: One benefit I enjoy from traveling is the ability to stay in high level suites at a variety of hotels, which gives me the luxurious views of every city I have visited in my lifetime. Here one can see the hidden beauty of the skyscrapers and lights of the world’s great metropolises. But it isn’t just the sights I enjoy. It is the sensation of being high above everything, of looking down at the entire planet underneath you. You feel like you are on top of the entire world.
{Soul’s hand lands on top of one of the belts.}
Soul: Being a champion is the same way. Claiming a belt means you are on top of your game. You are the person at the apex of the sport. You’ve proven yourself to be the best there is.
{His finger runs along the side, slowly caressing the gold plate.}
Soul: Of course, it also means everyone underneath you is looking up at you with jealous eyes. They see where you are and they all want to have the same view. Many of them are willing to take the necessary steps needed to climb the proper way. Others are willing to take as many shortcuts as possible. But no matter which method they choose, you are the one in their crosshairs. You are always the prey, hoping to outfox the hunter to live yet another day.
{With yet another sigh, Soul leans back in his chair while folding his hands across his chest.}
Soul: Nearly all my career, I’ve been lucky… as odd as it sounds… to have been in that position. Two World Heavyweight Championships and three World Tag Team championships has made me very familiar with it. I’ve had countless people chasing after me, hoping to end my position as the alpha dog. They’ve come after me by challenging me in interviews, attacking me in the locker room, jumping me in the ring, and assaulting my friends. In the end, it is all the same… they want what I have. And they are willing to do anything to get it.
{The champion leans forward in his seat.}
Soul: As such, I get the rationale behind what happened during Reloaded last week. After all, what other reason did Jason X and Chris Cable have for assaulting both Roxi and myself in the ring? They had no business being there as, to my knowledge, neither are friends of Kurt and Chris. There was nothing for them to gain by helping the drunk and the cocky asshole. But beating down the reigning World champion and one-half of the reigning World Tag Team champions? What better way to put out your intention to take a shot at their belts?
{Soul reaches over, grabbing his belt from the table. He looks at it while talking.}
Soul: Apparently, the powers that be decided to see how Cable and Jason, apparently former partners in the past, would fare against Aeryn and I in perhaps preparation for a future title shot. One would think they have an excellent chance, given they never have been beaten when paired together. Cable himself is a former tag champion, so he knows exactly what it takes to reach the pinnacle. Likewise, Jason has a few TV reigns on his resume. Two great wrestlers with such credentials would almost be assured to climb to the top at their leisure.
{Soul’s eyes gleam as he replaces the belt next to its twin.}
Soul: However, one fact of which every single person in MPW is aware: We are undefeated ourselves. Since Aeryn pledged to become my partner, we’ve been on a tag team tear unmatched in this league’s history. Iconic Aggression may have been the longest reigning champions, but from pretty much their first month as titleholders until our challenge, they almost never teamed together. In the meantime, Aeryn and I have been willing to take on anyone and everyone. We ascended quickly to the top, claimed our prize, and have been faithfully deterring every single challenge ever since. We may have a long way to go till we have the longest reign, but already I dare say people are proclaiming it the greatest.
{His attention is once more fully focused on the camera.}
Soul: You see, Cable and Jason, to me, you are just another team who is foolish enough to think they come out of nowhere to knock both Aeryn and I from the top. Another one who doubts our credentials and thinks they can knock us off our pedestal just because we have no real regular challengers. You ignore that we have turned back team after team. You ignore that our bond has been challenged by a variety of foes and we have yet to break. You ignore everything that made us.. and will keep us… champions.
{Soul looks back to the skyscape.}
Soul: Tomorrow night, boys, you are going to find out exactly why Aeryn and I have earned the right to enjoy such a spectacular view. And why we are willing to do anything to keep it. In the end, I have feeling you just might find yourself wishing you had perhaps chosen either Taufik and Johnny as your victims for your title aspirations. Because you are not quite ready to reach the heights to which this Phoenix has arisen.
{Soul turns his attention completely to the city as the camera follows his gaze. It once again focuses on the Nashville skyline, then fades to black.}
