Saturday 7th July. Fosters Apartment, Las Vegas, Nevada. Six pm.
Toby is sat in his new apartment, the modern colours and the layout of the place is more than he could have wished for when Mr Owens told him about this deal. Brand new 3D TV on the wall which has to be over sixty inches. Beautiful tile flooring sets off the spacious living area overlooking the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas itself.
The camera crew are in and are setting up the kit they need for the interview that will be shown in the build-up to the first ever MPW Monday nights main event. On July 9th on the WTN regional network, Foster will be preforming in his first televised match and MPW board of directors have asked the man with all the questions Jay Wyatt to conduct Toby’s first ever interview.
Wyatt: Everything’s ready Mr Foster, are you all ready for this?
Foster: how does my hair look? I wanna look my best for the ladies….
Wyatt: You’re looking good toby, won’t be long till you got umm all falling at your feet. Guy’s its time start rolling. Hello MPW Fans, Jay Wyatt here today with the newest member of the MPW roster. He’s from Five thousand miles across the pond, His name is Toby Foster.
Foster: Thanks for that great introduction mate. I’m really happy to be here, I’m about to live my dreams and who doesn’t want to do that.
Wyatt: let’s get the questions rolling, first off tell us abit about how you came here to Vegas and the MPW?
Foster: It’s a crazy story to tell the truth. I’ve been wrestling around Britain for a few years and nothing seemed to be happing with regards to getting to the U.S. I won all there was to win in the U.K and I was told on a number of occasions that I was the number one Wrestler on the British Isles. There are a lot of little promotions who do shows once, twice a month at a push and the country is lacking one big promotion with regular events and that way people will get noticed more. Back to the question…. Eighteen months ago I was wrestling a show in London for a little promotion called ALP which stands for another London promotion. I was wrestling for their heavyweight title and I did a springboard shooting star plancha and got it slightly wrong landed on my knees and blew out my left MCL.
Wyatt: ouch….sounds horrible!
Foster: I survived! I had my return match in Manchester one month ago after eighteen months of rehab, I won my match and after the show I got stopped by some guy in a suit who was claiming to be the head talent scout for a new Las Vegas called MPW. He told me that night I injured my knees he was in the crowd hoping to sign me to another federation he worked for at the time but obviously I missed the plancha and killed my knee so he waited and waited until he heard about my comeback. He watched my match, called his boss who happens to be part of the board here at MPW now and they signed me to a lucrative deal. Part of that deal is the home you’re sitting in now so how could I turn this down, come across the water and live my dreams.
Jay: This place is beautiful; it’s just what I young man dreams of. Your right smack bang in the middle of Las Vegas, everyone wants to live in Vegas. Next question Toby, in the press it’s been stated that the millennium pro wrestling board of directors have made a foolish mistake signing you. Your just back off an injury and you’ve haven’t really proved yourself yet you’ve got a big lucrative contract, your thoughts on that?
Toby: My names been mentioned in the local press and I haven’t even thrown my first forearm yet…. I’m doing something right then. All press is good press because people will be watching me now. Some will want me to succeed and some will want me to fail that’s the joys of professional sports but all I can say is that…. Yes MPW has taken a chance on a young man from a little place called Bristol but I’m far from inexperienced. I’m not your run of the mill green rookie. I’ve been wrestling since I was eighteen and I’ve wrestled over three hundred matches and at the age of twenty five I think that’s quite impressive. Some nights I’d wrestle first on one show, drive sometimes a hundred miles to main event another show. Granted though the competition hasn’t always been of the highest standard but I’m ready to prove I am worth this shot. I’m willing to work for every opportunity and I’m sure that if I’m not what the board thought and I don’t live up to my expectations I’ll be on the first big bird back to Britain…. That was a plug for my finisher too check it out.
Jay: Haha!! Nice plug. Do you wanna explain your finisher to the viewers?
Toby: Well it’s called the ‘back to Britain’ and it’s a Bridging dragon suplex, but not your run of the mill dragon by any means. Is more of a snap driver dragon suplex because the speed and torque that I snap my opponent over onto the neck. It’s the whiplash effect that sends the opponent out and nobody yet has kicked out and that’s never gonna change.
Jay: Sounds very nasty, I wouldn’t like to be on the receiving end. Two more questions for you Mr Foster and I’ll leave you alone I know you’ve probably got a lot of training to do. Firstly about your match Sunday night, how do you feel getting moved from first on the card to second?
Toby: Well Jay, I got told about this just this morning. People say it doesn’t matter where on the card you fight, first, second or last but to me it does. I’ve now gotta change my preparations, I always get my gear on exactly one hour before my match, also always warm up twenty minutes before my match. Now these times have changed because my match time will be different so being the perfectionist I am I need to think differently. If you don’t prepare correctly for your match nothing you plan will go right. Tip of the day from ‘textbook’ Toby Foster.
(Toby puts a little wink into the camera)
Jay: you do sound like a perfectionist and I’m really looking forward to seeing you in action Monday night. Last question and probably the most important and what everyone wants to hear. You’ve been really quiet in the build-up to your match with Jason Xavier, he’s been far from quiet and there are a few choice words he used in a recent interview. This is what he said, he’s the David in the David and goliath match, and he’s said he’s going to beat you this Monday and move on to be the face of MPW. Your thoughts?
Toby: I really don’t understand how this is a David vs. goliath situation? There’s only Five pounds difference in weight and a couple of inches in height according to our roster pages on MPW.com and it’s not my fault I’m in better shape than him is it? So unless Jason X has me mixed up with someone else I really don’t know what he’s getting at. It could be that he’s watched some YouTube footage of me and he’s referring to talent not size. I totally agree there is a gulf in difference when it comes to skills so I would say he’s totally correct. You really shouldn’t put your talent down though Mr X, because I’ve studied you just like a real pro does. I’ve watched countless hours of your matches and I must admit you’re pretty good. You’re going to be a tough test but my raw talent and my need to win will overcome anything you throw at me. I’ll even overcome a stone and a slingshot unlike the original goliath.
(Toby smirks at his own jokes before continuing to speak)
Toby: I hope you’re watching this X because I want you to know I’m the complete package and that means I’m a sportsman too and not a bad loser and if you do beat me I will shake your hands and declare you the winner and I will hold my hands up and say you’re the better man but that’s highly unlikely. I have so many ways to beat you and by watching you videos I know you have weaknesses and only one way to beat me. You use some convoluted spinning thingamajig and there’s no way I’m going to let that happen. My thoughts on you Jason are that you’ve been around a long time without any major accomplishments and I think you rate yourself too highly. As for being the face of the company… I’m just going to take one match at a time and work for my rewards. I don’t demand anything and I work for everything. I hope the home fans see that and they will cheer for the right man this Monday night because after the match when my hand is raised in victory there is only on chant they will be shouting….”This is textbook”
Jay: Thanks for your time today Toby, great interview and that give the fans a real insight into the mind of MPW’s resident Brit, Good luck Monday.
Toby: no thank you for coming here Mr Wyatt and have a textbook day.
The two shake hands and the interview goes off air.
